Relaxing Daily Routine in Gulf Islands, Canada
Travel Journal
Forest walk, boating and moon watching
In July, we went to Saturna Island, one small island that belongs to Gulf Islands National Park Reserve.
Just 350 permanent residents are living on the island.
It's small compared to Salt Spring Island, with a population of about 10,560 people, also a part of the Gulf Islands.
There's no hospital, no coffee shop and no shopping mall.
It might be quicker to list what it has – one general store that pretty much sells everything essential and one pub/restaurant.
You can see why the island is not for everyone.
It has not been my favourite place for a long time. I hated it.
We have a family member who owns a place in the private community, so we'd come here to spend time with family.
But this year, it was different.
Perhaps because I was exhausted after spending 1.5 years working from home, I wanted a quiet vacation.
Saturna Island is the BEST place for that!
We don't have an itinerary when we come here.
Well, there are not that many things to do anyway.
Our daily routine was like this.
Get up > Forest Walk > Boating > Sitting on a deck
Forest Walk
The forest is within the gated community. During our stay, we haven't come across anyone in the forest.
Creepy at night? Perhaps. Just don't go there at night!
Boating
The community has a shared dock where residents can dock their boats.
In the afternoon, we would go 'boating' around the island.
Night on the deck
The deck is an essential part of our stay. We spent almost half our time on the island on the deck.
During the day, we'd read books there, and we'd chat with the family at night.
Sitting on top of a cliff, we get an incredible view of the ocean and moonlight.
